Our intrepid tour guides Tihomir and Hristo have a treat in store for us today: a visit to Ledenika Cave, aka The Ice Cave, a famous and thrilling attraction 15 km out of town way up in the mountains in the Vrachanski Balkan Nature Park. When they say Ice Cave, they mean it! It was freezing in there! Not only did we see an incredible array of stalactites and stalagmites, there was also an over the top light show featuring a soaring eagle (an important bird around here) and a mysterious Bulgarian princess. Add in a sighting of one of Vratsa’s biggest rockstars hanging out with his girlfriend and chihuahua, wild horses, a rusting Chairlift To Nowhere built in socialist times, and some truly breathtaking views, and you’ve got a perfect Sunday afternoon excursion!
