It’s party day in Rotterdam! First, a small afternoon open house at our flat to show appreciation to some of the folks who have made our first six weeks in Rotterdam so lovely. Sister Julie pulls together a sumptuous feast (without a working oven!) from our morning market finds and assorted scores from the neighborhood shops; her potato feta pancakes with salmon and creme fraiche, the lavendar salami from Chez Moi, cream-filled truffles from “the bread ladies,” and the elderberry syrup from Buiten are all big hits. Thanks to everyone who stopped by… you’ve become part of our extended family and we love you dearly.
The evening is all about Rotterdamse Museumnacht, the yearly event where cultural institutions across the city stay open until the wee (and I mean wee) hours of the morning and the whole town is out in the streets celebrating. We make the rounds to exhibits that are showcasing work by friends: Cola’s sweet piece about candy and memory, our absentee landlady Marijke Appelman at the Goethe Institute, Joel’s pop-up food shop and Serge Gainsbourg duct tape tribute at Blaak10, and the manic marriage of WORM and Roodcapje at the stroke of midnight… Champagne for everyone!
Beautiful Stuff!
