3.7.12: From DIY to DIT

After celebrating the morning arrival of my sister Julie (here to hang out for the next week–hooray!), it’s off to the Willem de Kooning Academy secret studio space for today’s lecture on American DIY culture and how it has influenced Paolo’s and my individual work and our collective work at Echo Park Film Center. While it’s surprising to find out that the majority of these third year Fine Arts students have never heard of Woody Guthrie, the Black Panthers, Food Not Bombs, Stan Brakhage or Riot Grrrl, it’s a real joy to introduce some new avenues of exploration and collaboration. Plans are already underway for a guerrilla outdoor screening… as soon as the weather warms up! Thanks again to Florian for the fabulous workshop photos.
