This morning we make a trip across the Nieuw Maas to the exotic South. Treated by some as a kind of separate city “too far away” and/or “too scary” to bother with, Rotterdam Zuid for us is a whole new wonderland of giant things: flea market, food market, stadium, park, public art and artists initiatives, they’re all big, bold and there for the exploring.
Right now we are exploring the Artist’s Book Workshop at the studio of artist and bookmaker Patricia Sousa. After a brief overview of the genre, Patricia gives us the basics on Leporello technique and, fortified with a fantastic array of supplies and wedges of homemade apple-rosemary pie, our dedicated group of seven gets down to work on our little masterpieces…
