This morning we pay a visit to the studio of Karel Doing, a prolific and multi-faceted local filmmaker whose 2001 city symphony, Images of A Moving City, sets a beautiful precedent for The Sound We See: Rotterdam. Over milky coffee we talk about the history of Studio Een, Dutch identity, falling in love in tango class, the Bolex as magical object, archives, squats, and making movies in Suriname, Rotterdam, Ukraine, Los Angeles and Bulgaria. Karel’s a true kindred spirit.
And afterwards? A Friday afternoon full of lovely things: a turkish bath, a trip to the art supply store, a nap, some pie and the WildBookMarket. The weekend’s off to a good start…
