Joel tells me I’m oversoxed.
Apparently if there are too many layers, there’s no room for the insulating air to warm up between them. Makes sense.
This week is dedicated to meetings with the many individuals at the many organizations who are all working together to ensure our residency/research project in Rotterdam is a success. Never before have we worked with such a dedicated and diverse team in facilitating a youth film workshop… it’s really pretty amazing. After we de-install the EPFC exhibition at Blaak10 (including dragging a bunch of big red beanbags, aka “Fatboys,” down the street to V2 Institute for the Unstable Media), we get together with Ariette and Tica from Sonor who are heading up the youth recruitment efforts in Cool and Oude Westen. This dynamic duo is literally going door to door to invite “at risk” teens and young adults to join our workshop; although they are finding this population feels excluded from the “high class” cultural activity taking place on main drag Witte de Withstraat and is generally suspicious of new programs run by folks from outside the community, there has been an encouraging show of interest in the Sound We See: Rotterdam. We definitely have our work cut out for us, but we always love a challenge!
